Intellectual Property & Copyright

  Introduction

Intellectual property rights allow people and organisations to own and protect creativity and innovation. In some cases this protection arises automatically and in others registration is required. A further complication is the differences that arise between different countries and the fact that registration may be required in with more than one body.

This course covers the various different types of IP and the protection that can be applied for. We also look at the different infringements of rights that can take place and what to do if you think you have a case.

Who should attend:

Managers who wish to gain a basic understanding of IP issues within their organisation.

Course outcomes:

Delegates will cover the four main areas of Intellectual Property, i.e. Patents, Trade Marks, Designs and Copyright as well as take a look at the broader issue of trade secrets. This creates awareness of situations where professional guidance may be required or allows decisions to be made that will avoid the common problems.

Teaching methods:

There will be a mixture of theoretical input from the tutor along with experiential learning and group discussion.
